How does it work?

The Cosmelan treatment consists of 2 parts; the first part is applied in practice. The second part is a home treatment with products. Cosmelan 1 is a mask that is applied in practice. Cosmelan 2 is a cream that you should use at home to support the treatment. Both products contain ingredients that work on the different stages of pigment. The ingredient Amalan forms the basis of the Cosmelan mask and has a direct effect on the subcutaneous process that forms pigment (melanin). It inhibits tyrosinase (a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process). In addition to the Cosmelan 2 cream, one should also use a soothing cream and an SPF 130+.

The treatment

On the day of the treatment, the Cosmelan mask will be applied to you. It lays on your skin like a mask. This mask should be left on for 12 hours. Please take this into account when scheduling your appointment! Make sure you can come by car or be brought by a loved one so that you don't have to spend too long on the street with the mask. After 12 hours, the mask may be removed with damp washcloths. We also advise you on aftercare in the period after the treatment.

Cosmelan is a very effective treatment with good results. It is also experienced as a spicy treatment. Due to the active ingredients such as fruit acids and vitamins A and C, the skin will renew itself, which can cause redness, a pulling sensation on the skin and flaking. These are side effects and desired responses. You will notice most of this in the first 4 to 8 weeks. After this, the skin becomes calm and gets used to the substances. In addition, it is important to use a good day care with UV protection every day to properly protect the new skin.

Skins - Advice

After the treatment you should not shower for 12 hours.
Avoid exposure to heat (shower, kitchen, oven) for the first 48 hours.
Preferably no make-up for the first 48 hours.
Leave molting and any scabs alone. It is absolutely not beneficial if you sit down to the skins. There is a risk of scarring and hyperpigmentation.
